A GOOD WEEK IN BIG BEAR

What an exciting week in Big Bear Lake!! Monday, the community had a big send-off for our Olympian, Ryan Hall, at the Big Bear Middle School. He was presented with a banner with over 1,200,000 miles for the Move A Million Miles campaign in honor of Ryan representing the US in the marathon in Beijing on August 23th. Ryan Hall was very grateful of the backing of the more than 2,000 Big Bear residence that showed up to send him off and those that contributed to the Move A Million miles campaign. Good Luck in China to Ryan Hall and all the athletes.
This weekend, Aug 8-10, is the 19th annual Antique Car Fun Run, where about 500 antique cars are on display for all to view. There are many activities throughout the weekend in Big Bear Lake Village. Come join us for an enjoyable weekend!!

An Optimist Through & Through

Well, it's August 1st and summer is moving along fairly fast and we're keeping our hopes up. The title companies all supply agents with reports on the Big Bear Real Estate market. Agents interpret them as they wish, but here is what I see. Every month this year, the number of houses sold have increased and the percent compared to last year sales has risen monthly. I know it's not like a few years ago, but it is still looking pretty good as we come into the best time of the year for Big Bear Lake properties on the market. Historically, the last 6 months of the year are better in Big Bear as buyers prepare for the skiing and the holidays. Baby boomers are considering how they want to spend their retirement years and where. Desert dwellers have been here during the summer months, coming to realize how convenient Big Bear Lake is to them and what a wonderful reprise from the heat in the desert.
So, let's put our best foot forward and showcase our lovely Big Bear community for what it is and do our best to help others find out what living at altitude is all about.

DESTINATION - BIG BEAR LAKE

Big Bear Lake is a popular Southern California destination point. Big Bear is only a couple of hours away from LA , San Diego, and we are getting more clients from Las Vegas.
The Big Bear Municipal Water District reports that this weekend was record-breaking, in terms of number of boats on Big Bear Lake at one time. The previous record of 963 boats was set on Saturday, July 4, 1996. Travis Carroll, Lake Operations Supervisor for the MWD, tells KBHR that this Fourth of July, on Friday, the rough guesstimate is that 1,000 boats were on Big Bear Lake in the 3 o'clock hour.

Our First Blog

Jan & I are new to blogging. We will try to bring new and refreshing information to our blog about Big Bear Lake, news and events through-out the valley, some real estate, and some photographs of our beautiful community. So bear with us for a little while as we find our voice. If you are reading this for the first time, Jan & I decided to get in better shape this year and started walking. As we progressed, we heard about preparing for a marathon in Long Beach, October 12th, through Prevention magazine and set that as our goal. Since then, we found out that Big Bear Lake was preparing for their first marathon (we, unfortunately, will be out of town that week) and our community is getting behind our local boy, Olympic marathoner, Ryan Hall, and encouraging everyone to become more active. So we are asking others to join us and register their activities in the form of miles at moveamillionmilesforryanhall.com. We believe that showing support for one of our own helps bring a community closer together and hope that you will feel the same.
